Forward Thinking: The Hero Inside Programme

Innovative Project conceived by Nomad Creative Consultancy

Another forward-thinking programme, ahead of its time, placing humanity at its core.

The Hero Inside Programme was devised in 2010 by the Creative Director Trevor Blackwood. The programme enables young people to discover their inner potential by using the cultural arts as catalyst for exploration.

Each programme is bespoke with central elements focusing on developing personal well-being and self-awareness through exploration of cultural heritage, identity and personal histories.

The London project was led from a black perspective, with black professionals leading the identity workshops and the teacher training. It accumulated in an exhibition at Menier Gallery at London Bridge. The public platform showcased the young participants creativity alongside the professional artists who had inspired and facilitated their journey of self-discovery.

This programme transcends cultures by providing opportunities to explore diversity within the framework of our shared humanity. By providing a safe platform to discuss and express our differences, negative stereotypes and personal biases are dispelled providing a unique space to value our stories and connect to our ‘hero inside’.

In 2014, Blackwood was commissioned by Abu Dhabi Festival to devise a bespoke programme for the UAE that accumulated with an exhibition at TwoFour54, Abu Dhabi’s media hub.
